RESOLUTION 2020-6-5

Resolution to Conduct Elections by Mail

WHEREAS, M.S. Statute 204B.45 authorizes a town of any size, or a city having fewer than 400 registered voters on June 1 of an election year and not located in the metropolitan county to conduct their elections by mail balloting to ease the burden of conducting elections in the usual fashion at polling places;

WHEREAS, a city/township, attempting to comply with the growing number of regulatory requirements associated with polling place operations places an undue burden on the financial and personal resources of our city/township;

WHEREAS, the State of Minnesota is in a state of emergency due to the COVID-19 outbreak and it is in the best interest of voters and election judges to conduct the August 2020 Primary and November 2020 General elections by mail balloting during this pandemic;

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City of Badger, Roseau County, Minnesota that conducting elections by mail is hereby adopted for the August 2020 Primary and November 2020 General elections and to be effective for the 2020 election cycle only.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, the clerk is hereby directed to provide the County Auditor a copy of this resolution for review and approval;

BE IT ALSO RESOLVED that the polling place for receiving the mailed ballots as well as the other duties and obligations associated with conducting elections, for the 2020 election cycle only, by mail shall be determined and resolved in cooperation with the County Auditor.

Elections for the City of Badger are held on the even years.
The polling place for Badger city residents is located at the community center 111 North Main Street. Roseau City Center 2020 only. (mail in ballots)

The polls are open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
To be eligible to vote, a person must be 18 years of age or older on the day of the election, a United States citizen, and have maintained residence in Minnesota for 20 days preceding the election.
